Thalys shines in Copinha: decisive in Palmeiras' victory at the end.
Turning 18 years old on February 22 nd and with a bright future ahead - Thalys Henrique Gomes de Araújo
represents one of the brightest stars in the entire Brazilian football scene. Palmeiras knows this well,
pampering its jewel as they wait to launch him amongst the big players.
After shining in Prague on the occasion of the 10th edition of the CEE Cup last July, leading the Verdão to
victory in the final against Slavia Prague in a packed Dolicek, the 2005 class – awarded best player of the
tournament – is showing off in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Junior, also known as Copinha, the most
important youth competition organized in Brazil.
With a goal at the 97th minute, Thalys won the match against Rio Preto, scoring the 2-1 goal that allowed
Palmeiras to secure their third win in a row and clinch the first place in Group 3, ahead of Juazeirense, right
the Rio Preto and America.
In full stoppage time and a few moments before the final whistle, the 17-year-old received a cross from the
left and headed the ball past the opponent's goalkeeper.
A debut goal in this edition of the tournament for Thalys who, after winning the CEE Cup, will try to help
Paulo Victor Gomes's team (already reigning champions) bring the trophy home.
