Ellis Simms shines with Sunderland: from top scorer in the CEE Cup to goals in the Premier League

Five goals and two assists in 14 games. Ellis Simms' impact with Sunderland in the league was overwhelming.

Despite a foot injury that stopped him for over a month and forced him to miss 7 league matches, the 2001 class striker owned by Everton is proving to be a real asset for the 'Black Cats '.

Also thanks to his goals, Sunderland have secured a mid-table spot and are now just a few points from the playoff zone.

After his experience in Scotland last year, during which he scored five goals and one assist in 17 games and saw his team finish in third place - behind Celtic and Rangers - Simms moved to Sunderland and thus began a new challenge.

A new chapter in his career and the first real test of maturity for the 21-year-old, who grew up in the academies of Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City before moving to Everton.

With the 'Toffees' jersey, the English forward shone in the 7th edition of the CEE Cup. In 2017, the Liverpool team won the prestigious international tournament in Prague in an all-English final against Burnley.

Ellis Simms stood out on the banks of the Vltava, as he scored one of the three goals in the final and also won the individual prize for best scorer in the competition with 6 goals.

After his performance in the Czech Republic, Simms' career took off with 58 goals scored in 4 seasons between the U18 and Premier League 2, all with the Everton shirt. In particular, the Oldham forward shined in the 2018/2019 season, in which he scored 32 goals in 21 games in the U18 championship and 5 goals in 4 matches in the FA Youth Cup.

Then came his jump to top level football with the call from Blackpool, with which he scored 10 goals in 23 games between League One, the playoffs and the FA Cup, and then with the Hearts of Midlothian last season.

All important numbers that convinced Sunderland to entrust him with the role of starting center-forward and, judging by the numbers in the first part of the season, the 'Black Cats' have won their bet. In the background, however, there is always Everton, who are keeping a watchful eye on their jewel, waiting to bring him back to the base and complete the circle, after making his first-team debut a year ago in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

He closed and then started again in his own way, to the sound of goals. One against Birmingham in the away win on 11 November, the last match before the Championship break, and then at the restart on 3 December, when he again scored a goal and provided an assist in the 3-0 defeat of Millwall, a club that had sought him out in the summer, as admitted by coach Gary Rowett. Ellis Simms continues to work hard and score for Sunderland. Step by step, his dream continues.
