Palmeiras triumphs in the Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior. After bringing home the 10th edition of the CEE Cup last July in Prague, the Verdao won the tournament reserved for U20 teams for the second year in a row.
The Paulista team beat America-MG in the final with a result of 2-1 thanks to goals from Ruan and Patrick who, in full recovery, made the fans explode with joy and the party begin.
A triumph that came at the end of a long journey that started in the group stage, which saw the Verdao win them all against America de Rio Preto, Preto and Juazeirense; then came the knockout phase and the subsequent victories over Sampaio Correa, again Juazeirense, Mirassol, Floresta, and then Goias in the semifinals.
Nine matches and as many successes; 26 goals scored and only 4 conceded. The numbers confirm how much Palmeiras' success in the Copinha came deservedly. The Verdao passed one hurdle after another without any particular difficulties, with the triumph that arrived in the final act in added time.
Some of the players that starred in this 53rd edition of the Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior were some of the very same stars that shone on the banks of the Vltava a few months ago. We are talking about Kauan Santos, born in 2004, author of a goal and an assist; Thalys, winner of the best player award at the last CEE Cup (not to mention the author of the decisive goal in the last match of the group stage); Patrick, beacon of the Verdao midfield and author of a goal; and, finally, Gilberto, right winger who, after having enchanted us in Prague, repeated said performance at home.
The encore of Palmeiras confirms the excellent work of Verdao, who continues to produce high-quality young players through the extraordinary work of one of the most important youth sectors on the Brazilian and South American scene. A well-deserved success for Thalys and his teammates, who are ready to look towards new horizons and ‘adult’ football.
