From winner and MVP of the CEE Cup to a millionaire transfer: Anthony Gordon joins Newcastle

Pure, splendid talent; a mix of technical and physical qualities, present since childhood, and confirmed in Prague during the 7th edition of the CEE Cup. On the banks of the Vltava, Anthony Gordon didn’t need much time to take the stage. The talented midfielder starred in the trophy win as he led Everton's 2017 'Toffees' to victory. Furthermore, at a mere 16 years of age, the 2001 class was deservedly awarded - and without a shadow of a doubt about it - the award of the best player of the tournament.

Five and a half years later, Anthony Gordon is one of the stars of the English and international football scene. After his debut with Everton in the Europa League in the 2017/18 season, immediately after winning the CEE Cup, the boy from Liverpool began his ascent by entering the 'Toffees' first team, steadily climbing the hierarchies and, finally, earning a permanent spot in the team.

Goals and top-level performances; to be precise, his stats show 7 goals and 8 assists in a total of 78 appearances for Everton in all competitions. Gordon's growth has been exponential, so-much-so that he caught Newcastle’s eye and soon after his transfer was made official on January 29th.

The 'Magpies' just couldn’t let him get away and bought him outright; an important investment for them who, according to rumors, put a total of 50 million euros on the plate to snatch him from Everton.

Needless to say, his transfer was a hard pill to swallow for Howe's team, but for Anthony Gordon, who will turn 22 on February 24th, it is sure to be a thrilling new challenge.

This is a further step upwards for the newly minted Newcastle player who, after winning the CEE Cup trophy and MVP award of the tournament in 2017 with the Everton jersey, now represents one of the rising stars of English football - the present and future of the 'Magpies' and of England.
