Group A preview

21.07.2019 08:33

The first of the two groups of this year’s CEE Cup, Group A, will be comprised by the local team, Sparta Prague, as well as the Turks of Besiktas, the Ukrainians of Shakhtar Donetsk and, finally, the Croatians of Dinamo Zagreb.

Sparta is a seasoned veteran of the CEE Cup; their team is built mostly from U19 vice-champions and U17 champions, so the tournament is another important test for the young players.

Besiktas returns to the CEE Cup with the same coach they came with last year, Özan Köprülü. The 41-year-old former Besiktas youth team and Turkish Super League player lead them all the way to final, so the Turks are to be watched for sure.

The Ukrainians from Shakhtar Donetsk will make their debut in the tournament. They will be led by their coach, Andres Carrasco Carrillo, who brings his experience as a former La Masia (Barcelona FC Academy) coach, where he spent a good 12 years.

The final team in the group, Dinamo Zagreb, are rookies to the tournament. However, they are sure to make their presence be heard, as they are the Youth League quarterfinalists and will be coming to Prague with an interesting young talent to keep an eye out for - Edin Julardzija.

Each team in Group A, just like Group B, will play against each other once. The matches will see a total of 80 minutes of total play time, with two 40 minute halves. The group winner will access the final directly, whereas the other teams will finish by playing ranking games.
