Dominik Plechatý the unexpected hero for Sparta
Let me paint you a picture; you are at the age of 15 and you play for a small club from Prague. At the age of 16, you are registered at one village club and at the age of 17 you suffer from Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury, which puts you out of football for nine months. Can you imagine that this could be career development of one football player that is right now (19 years old) member of starting eleven at Sparta Prague?
Well, that is the story behind Dominik Plechatý. He joined Sparta in winter of 2015 on loan from Sokol Zvole. Before he joined Strahov Academy, he played at Motorlet youth as a central midfielder. Because of the very good relationship between both clubs, the team from Jinonice recommended Sparta to test this blond youngster.
Dominik joined his new team just before traveling to England. Sparta juniours did so well, that they were mentioned in Czech newspapers as well. U-16 team destroyed Tottenham 9:0, lost to Manchester United Academy 5:7 and beat Liverpool 3:2. „Fresh blood“ adapted immediately. „Central midfielder joined us from Motorlet, but here he played 3 games as a central defender and I couldn't believe it“, said coach Petr Havlíček while still shaking his head.
A year and a half after, Plechatý was part of the triumph of U19 that won CEE Cup. The team lead by David Holoubek won this tournament for the second time in a row while beating Fluminense from Brazil. Superb youth team then won their local league with a big difference.
Summer of 2018 was time to move Dominik to professional football, even though he missed the majority of the previous season due to ACL. In the second division, he met again with coach Petr Havlíček and accommodated very quickly. Basically, every game at Vlašim meant for Dom to be in starting eleven and his performance was not overlooked by Sparta.
„Mr. Rosický called me that they want me to join the team because I made big progress“, said promising footballer for official Sparta website. „They told me that if I perform well, I will stay with the first team“, he added. And that is also what happened. Sparta couldn´t complete transfer of David Lischka from Jablonec due to his heart issues, but they found surprisingly good central defender within their academy.
